This paper aims to explore what I call these non-totalitarian hopes for truth and their relevance to current problems of philosophy of education. Keywords: Spinoza, conatus, education, aims, desire, activity-passivity, joy, immanence. iafor Spinoza was born in Amsterdam into a Portuguese Jewish family, which had fled Spain for the Netherlands during the Spanish Inquisition. He was given an early religious education. But he was influenced by not only Descartes and Leibniz but also by Machiavelli and Hobbes as well as Stoicism and various heterodox thinkers of his time.
